Indian Lake Golf & Country Club sits along the shores of Indian Lake in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, near the town of Manistique on the northern edge of Lake Michigan. The course occupies wooded, rolling terrain characteristic of the region, with the natural topography providing elevation changes and framed views through stands of pine and hardwood. The setting offers a mix of forested corridors and openings that reveal the lake and surrounding landscape. The design work reflects the contributions of John Barr and Mike Husby, who shaped a routing that works with the property's natural features. The layout incorporates the land's contours and native vegetation, creating holes that move through varied terrain. Players encounter approaches that require attention to slope and green positioning, with the tree-lined character demanding accuracy from the tee on several holes. Indian Lake serves as a regional course in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, an area known for its remote beauty and outdoor recreation. The club functions as a gathering place for the local community and visitors exploring the U.P., offering golf in a forested lakeside environment distinct from the state's more populated southern regions. The course provides a straightforward test of golf shaped by its natural surroundings, with the Upper Peninsula's seasonal climate limiting play to the warmer months.
