Hiawatha Golf Course

Hiawatha Golf Course occupies a distinctive setting in south Minneapolis, situated adjacent to Lake Hiawatha and within view of the city skyline. Opened in 1934 as a municipal facility during the Depression era, the course was designed by Theodore Wirth, the superintendent of the Minneapolis park system whose name graces another prominent municipal course in the city. The layout reflects the practical, accessible design philosophy of early public golf, providing a straightforward test on relatively flat terrain characteristic of the urban Minneapolis landscape. The course plays across open parkland with mature trees framing many holes. Water comes into play on several holes, most notably where the routing approaches Lake Hiawatha itself.
