Golspie Course
Golspie, The Highlands, Scotland

Golspie Golf Club sits on elevated ground above the town of Golspie in Sutherland, offering views across the Dornoch Firth toward the mountains of Ross-shire. The course was redesigned by James Braid in the 1920s, part of his prolific work throughout Scotland that saw him reshape dozens of Highland layouts. The routing makes use of natural contours and heathland terrain characteristic of this stretch of the east Highland coast, with gorse, heather, and native grasses framing the fairways. The course plays across rolling linksland and parkland features, with several holes occupying higher ground that provides both strategic interest and expansive coastal scenery. Braid's design incorporates the natural movement of the land, requiring thoughtful club selection and course management rather than overwhelming length. The layout is traditional in character, reflecting the era of its design and the practical constraints of the site. Golspie serves as a more accessible complement to nearby Brora and Royal Dornoch, part of the cluster of historic courses along the northern stretch of Scotland's east coast. The club maintains a welcoming atmosphere typical of smaller Highland golf communities, where visiting golfers are received without formality. The course offers a genuine example of Braid's architectural approach in a setting that remains relatively unchanged from its early twentieth-century origins.

Superintendent let me play with his clubs because mine got lost in transit. And he was a fellow lefty!
A really neat course. the first several holes play right along the water, and then the back nine turns inland to a more healthland style course. a bunch of great strategy
