Galway Course
Salthill, Galway, IE

Galway Golf Club occupies a distinctive parkland setting in Salthill, on the western edge of Galway city where the land meets Galway Bay. The course sits within view of the Atlantic and the Burren landscape across the water in County Clare, offering a coastal atmosphere despite its inland character. Established in 1895, the club represents one of Ireland's older golfing institutions, though the current layout reflects modifications and refinements made over subsequent decades as the membership and facilities evolved. The routing moves across gently rolling terrain with mature tree cover that frames many holes and defines playing corridors. The proximity to Galway Bay influences conditions, with prevailing westerly winds often a significant factor in club selection and strategy. Water features come into play on several holes, and the parkland character provides a contrast to the links courses found elsewhere along Ireland's western coast. The layout demands accuracy rather than overwhelming length, rewarding thoughtful course management over pure power. The club serves as an accessible venue for both members and visitors exploring the Galway region, maintaining a welcoming atmosphere typical of Irish golf clubs. Its location in Salthill, a popular seaside district just outside the city center, makes it a convenient option for golfers staying in Galway who seek a traditional parkland round. The clubhouse overlooks the course and bay, providing a comfortable base for the membership and reflecting the club's long-standing presence in the local community.
it was warm when i played and the greens were very hard and lightning fast It has a lot of nice holes and it is very scorabke if you can manage the greens
If this place was as good as the members seem to think it is this app would need to allow ratings of 11/10! It’s ok. It’s well kept and conditioned in fairness but the layout is only ok, nothing memorable. Some nice views of Galway Bay on the 4 holes on the sea side of the road.
