Spanish Point Course
Milltown Malbay, Clare, IE

Few courses can claim to have been birthed from a hotelier's vision, but that is precisely the origin of Spanish Point Golf Links in County Clare. Designed in the late 19th century, the course hugs the rugged coastline, a testament to the early days of golf architecture where the land dictated the layout. The routing favors the strategic player, demanding thoughtful club selection amidst the ever-present coastal winds. Blind shots and sharp doglegs test course management, while undulating greens reward precise approach play. While not a frequent host to major championships, Spanish Point boasts a loyal membership drawn from the surrounding communities and beyond. Generations have navigated its challenging holes, sharing stories and camaraderie in the clubhouse afterward. There's a certain unassuming charm to Spanish Point, a welcome respite from the more heavily lauded links courses of Ireland. Spanish Point is perhaps best known locally for its spirited competitions and vibrant social scene. The annual Captain's Prize is hotly contested, followed by a lively celebration that embodies the club's welcoming spirit. In essence, Spanish Point offers a genuine Irish golfing experience, where the focus remains on the simple pleasures of the game, the beauty of the landscape, and the warmth of its community. A well-deserved pint after a round is as much a tradition as the opening tee shot.

Fun and quirky 9. Half really cool holes and half questionable holes where you don’t really know where to hit it
six seven worth a stop if you have a free day in lahinch
Super fun course. Very tricky greens, and many approaches are blind. You think you’d score better the 2nd time around, but reality shows you differently! Lovely experience.
