Galloway National Course
Galloway Township, NJ, USA

Galloway National, carved from the rugged New Jersey pine barrens near the coast, stands as a testament to a vision of bringing Scottish links traditions to an unexpected landscape. This late 20th-century design, primarily the work of Tom Fazio, expertly integrates the sandy soil and native vegetation, creating firm, fast playing conditions. It plays generous off the tee, although errant tee shots can find trouble, while approaches reward accuracy and finesse into the undulating greens. While not steeped in a century of championship history, Galloway National has quietly become a respected test, hosting regional qualifiers and high-level amateur events that draw talent from the Mid-Atlantic region. Beyond the course, Galloway National fosters a close-knit community, drawn together by a shared appreciation for the game in a somewhat remote and natural setting. A well known, although unofficial, club tradition has members and guests alike attempting to skip balls across the pond guarding the 18th green – a risky proposition with a watery grave awaiting those who come up short.

Golfers say this is a demanding but rewarding layout that tests precision off the tee, with reviewers noting that missing fairways even slightly can lead to lost balls. Most praise the elevation changes throughout, both in the fairways and on approach shots, which add strategic interest and challenge. The greens draw particular attention for their speed and slope, requiring careful lag putting. Reviewers appreciate the quality of the facilities, highlighting a well-appointed clubhouse, excellent locker room, and a pro shop with strong merchandise selection. While one golfer finds the course mostly unwalkable, another enjoyed the walks between holes, and overall sentiment points to a highly enjoyable design that balances difficulty with playability.

Tough course loved the walk inbetween holes and the elevation changes in the fairway as well as apprach shots into greens. Quick sloped greens make precise lag putting a must. Clubhouse and locker room are class. Pro shop is a decent size with a phenomenal selection of goods.
Very demanding off the tee. I love most of everything about the course but if you miss the fairway by 5 yards you might need a new ball. Mostly unwalkable, but a great course
One of my favorite courses from design/playability/difficulty/fun perspective
