The Falls course at Magnolia Grove opened in 1992 as part of Alabama's Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, a statewide network of public-access facilities designed to promote golf tourism and economic development. Robert Trent Jones Sr. led the design with associate Roger Rulewich, creating one of three courses at this Mobile complex. The Trail project represented one of Jones's final major commissions, extending his architectural philosophy of strategic challenge and playability across multiple tee sets to a broad public audience. The course takes its name from a series of water features that figure prominently in the routing. The layout moves through rolling terrain characteristic of coastal Alabama, with elevation changes that provide visual interest and strategic variety uncommon in the region's typically flat topography. Jones's signature design elements appear throughout—large, contoured greens with multiple pin positions, expansive bunkering, and water hazards positioned to reward accurate play while offering bailout areas for higher-handicap golfers. The conditioning and scale reflect the Trail's mandate to deliver championship-caliber golf at accessible rates. Magnolia Grove sits roughly twenty miles west of Mobile, surrounded by longleaf pine and hardwood forest. The complex includes practice facilities and a clubhouse serving all three courses on the property. The Falls plays as the middle option in terms of difficulty among Magnolia Grove's layouts, offering a balance between strategic interest and playability that suits both resort visitors and local members who use the facility regularly.
