Dakota Dunes Course
Dakota Dunes, SD, USA

Dakota Dunes Country Club occupies a distinctive setting along the Missouri River in the far southeastern corner of South Dakota, just north of Sioux City, Iowa. The course was designed by Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay and opened in the late 1980s as the centerpiece of the planned Dakota Dunes community. Palmer and Seay, who collaborated on numerous projects during their partnership, worked with terrain that features more elevation change and natural movement than typically found in this region of the Great Plains. The routing takes advantage of the property's wooded river bluffs and rolling topography, incorporating mature trees and water features throughout the layout. The design reflects Palmer's playing philosophy, with generous landing areas balanced by strategic bunkering and approach shots that reward precision. Several holes play along elevated corridors with views across the Missouri River valley, while others move through lower, more intimate tree-lined sections. The club serves as a private facility for members in the tri-state area where South Dakota, Iowa, and Nebraska converge. Dakota Dunes represents one of the relatively few Arnold Palmer designs in the upper Midwest and remains the most prominent championship-caliber course in the immediate Sioux City metropolitan region. The layout provides a parkland-style golf experience uncommon in South Dakota, where many courses occupy flatter prairie terrain with less dramatic natural features.
