Bude & North Cornwall Course

Bude and North Cornwall Golf Club occupies elevated clifftop land on the north Cornwall coast, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean near the town of Bude. The course was established in 1891, making it one of the older clubs in Cornwall, and plays across classic linksland characterized by natural undulations, gorse, and exposure to coastal winds. The routing takes advantage of the dramatic topography, with several holes running along or near the cliff edges and others moving inland across more sheltered ground. Views extend across Bude Bay and the surrounding coastline, and the terrain provides the kind of firm, fast-running conditions typical of seaside courses in this part of England. The layout measures around 6,000 yards from the back tees and features a mix of short and medium-length holes that reward accuracy and course management over pure length. The natural contours create interesting stances and approach angles, and the prevailing wind off the Atlantic is a constant factor in club selection and strategy. The course has remained relatively unchanged in its essential character over the decades, preserving the straightforward, unpretentious qualities of early British seaside golf. Bude and North Cornwall is a members' club with a welcoming atmosphere and a strong local following. The clubhouse sits near the course's highest point and offers traditional amenities. The club hosts regional amateur competitions and remains a popular destination for visitors seeking authentic links golf in Cornwall's rugged coastal landscape.
The journey to Bude and North Cornwall Golf Club begins at either Newquay Airport for regional connections or Exeter International for broader access, followed by a westward drive of roughly an hour and a half that traces the wild contours of Cornwall's Atlantic edge. The route unfolds through narrow hedgerow-lined lanes and open moorland before descending toward the dramatic coastline where Bude sits tucked between cliffs and surf. As the road drops into town, the golf course reveals itself on the clifftops above Summerleaze Beach, its windswept fairways perched at the very threshold of the Celtic Sea - an arrival that feels less like reaching a destination than stepping onto the edge of the world itself.

A really odd course, not in a good way. So many things that made it more frustrating then positive. Ridiculous layout you spend more time waiting for other tee boxes to hit then you do hitting, Mesh flags suck. Service was illiterate. Food was fine. No water fountains and had to call club house to make sure you enjoy it. Such a gettable course and gutted to of shot a 90. Such mixed feelings.
