Braid Hills-Wee Braids Course
Edinburgh, City of Edinburgh, Scotland

Braid Hills Golf Course occupies elevated ground on the southern edge of Edinburgh, offering two distinct layouts on the same hillside site. The Wee Braids, the shorter of the two courses, provides a compact test of golf across undulating terrain with expansive views over the city and the Firth of Forth. The course takes its name from the Braid Hills themselves, a prominent feature of Edinburgh's southern landscape that has hosted golf since the late nineteenth century. The layout is characterized by its hilly topography and exposed position, where wind often plays a significant role in club selection and strategy. The terrain creates natural elevation changes throughout the round, with several holes playing uphill or downhill and requiring careful judgment of distance. The course serves as both a testing ground for beginners and a quick round option for more experienced players familiar with Edinburgh's municipal golf offerings. Braid Hills operates as a public facility managed by the City of Edinburgh Council, making it accessible to visitors and residents alike. The course sits within a landscape of gorse and rough grasses typical of Scottish parkland settings at this elevation. Its proximity to the city center and relatively modest length make it a practical choice for golfers seeking a genuine Scottish golf experience without the formality or expense of private club membership. The setting provides a contrast between urban accessibility and the open, windswept character of traditional Scottish golf terrain.
The course is a 4 but the views and experience bring it to a 7. Would not make time in a Scotland trip to play it but if you have an afternoon in Edinburgh to waste and you feel the itch the play golf, absolutely go. You will hit shots you’ve never been faced with before.
Firm, fast, and probably unfair or impossible in spots. Never played a golf course like this, and have no idea how they built it. A few great holes, a few really bad ones, and some ill advised tree plantings on the east side of the property. Lots of gorse to manage around, but can look beautiful in April/May when it’s blooming
