Balgownie Course
Bridge of Don, Aberdeen City, Scotland

Balgownie, the sister links to Royal Aberdeen, has always stood slightly apart, its character a shade more playful than its revered sibling. Stretching along the rugged coastline north of Aberdeen, Balgownie presents a true links experience, sculpted from the dunes that define this stretch of Scottish shore. The sea wind is a constant companion, shaping strategy and dictating club selection across fairways that roll and undulate with deceptive charm. Originally laid out by Archie Simpson, with later contributions from James Braid, Balgownie's design embraces the natural contours of the land. While not known for hosting major championships, the course offers a stern but fair test of golfing ability. Its layout favors shot-shapers, rewarding creativity and adaptability over brute force. Cleverly placed bunkers and subtly sloping greens demand a deft touch and a keen understanding of links golf. The club at Balgownie fosters a close-knit community. Post-round conversation often centers around a hearty plate of Cullen Skink, a traditional Scottish soup and a long-standing tradition at the club. While Royal Aberdeen often claims the limelight, Balgownie possesses an undeniable charm, a testament to the enduring appeal of classic links golf.

A really good classic out and back links. Can get really windy. Conditions are decent. Course has a great history. A must play if in the Aberdeen area.
One of the best front 9’s in golf and an A tier clubhouse. Incredible experience
