Alpine Country Club occupies rolling terrain in Demarest, in the northeastern corner of New Jersey near the New York state line. A.W. Tillinghast designed the original eighteen holes in 1928, during the architect's prolific period in the metropolitan New York area. The property features moderate elevation changes and mature tree-lined corridors typical of parkland courses in Bergen County. Ron Forse completed a restoration in the early 2000s that returned many of Tillinghast's original design elements, including green contours and bunker placements that had been altered over decades of maintenance evolution. The routing takes advantage of the natural topography, with several holes playing across slopes and others utilizing ridgelines for strategic interest. Tillinghast's characteristic bunkering style—deep, irregularly shaped hazards positioned to challenge both tee shots and approaches—remains evident throughout the layout. The greens feature the subtle internal movement and false fronts common to Tillinghast's work, rewarding precise iron play and thoughtful short game execution. Alpine serves a private membership drawn largely from the surrounding northern New Jersey communities. The club maintains a traditional country club atmosphere with family-oriented programming alongside its golf operations. The course provides a representative example of Golden Age design principles adapted to the wooded, rolling landscape characteristic of the region, and the Forse restoration work has helped preserve the strategic qualities Tillinghast intended nearly a century ago.
