Club de golf Lachute occupies rolling terrain in the Laurentian foothills northwest of Montreal, approximately fifty miles from the city in the town of Lachute. Stanley Thompson designed the course in 1928 during a prolific period when he was establishing his reputation across Canada. The layout reflects Thompson's characteristic approach to working with natural landforms, routing holes through varied elevation changes and incorporating the existing topography into strategic design. The course moves across wooded and open ground with several holes playing along or across modest valleys. Thompson's design philosophy of minimal earth-moving is evident here, as fairways follow the land's natural contours and greens are positioned to take advantage of existing slopes and ridges.
