Stanley Thompson (1893–1953) was Canada's pre-eminent Golden Age golf course architect and a co-founder of the American Society of Golf Course Architects. Working primarily during the 1920s and 1930s, Thompson built an extraordinary portfolio across Canada and into select American markets, establishing a reputation for bold, naturalistic routing and strategic design that harmonized with dramatic landscapes.

His Rocky Mountain masterworks at Fairmont Banff Springs and Jasper Park Lodge showcase his skill at integrating golf into stunning natural settings. In Ontario, Thompson created a dense cluster of enduring designs, including St. George's Golf and Country Club, Capilano, and St. Thomas Golf & Country Club, all of which remain highly regarded. Beyond these signature properties, his practice touched nearly every Canadian province—from The Cape Breton Highlands in Nova Scotia to Waskesiu in Saskatchewan—and extended into the United States with courses like Tacoma Country & Golf Club in Washington and several Ohio layouts.
