Willie Campbell was a Scottish-born golf professional and architect active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He worked both in his native Scotland and in the United States during golf's formative years in America, contributing to the establishment of the game at several important clubs.
Campbell's American work includes early designs at The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts, where he laid out the Clyde & Squirrel and Primrose courses at one of the five founding clubs of the USGA. He also designed the Union League course at Torresdale in Philadelphia and Beaver Meadow in Concord, New Hampshire. His Colorado work includes multiple nines at Patty Jewett Golf Club in Colorado Springs. In Scotland, he is associated with layouts at Islay Golf Club and Carnegie Links at Skibo Castle in Dornoch.
Campbell represents an important transitional generation of golf professionals who brought Scottish design principles to America's earliest clubs, helping establish course architecture as a distinct profession in the years before the modern era of specialized design firms.
