Xenophon Hassenplug

Xenophon Hassenplug was an American golf course architect whose work is primarily found across Pennsylvania, Ohio, and neighboring Mid-Atlantic states. His portfolio demonstrates a focus on accessible regional layouts that served country clubs and public facilities during the mid-20th century.

Among his known designs are Ligonier Country Club in Pennsylvania, Skippack Golf Course near Philadelphia, and Brookside Golf Course in Ashland, Ohio. His work also includes Buckeye Hills Country Club in Ohio, Cumberland Country Club in Maryland, and the Hill course at Chautauqua Golf Club in New York. In western Pennsylvania, Hassenplug designed courses at Seven Oaks Country Club, Lone Pine Country Club, and Seven Springs Mountain Resort, along with Valley Green layouts in both Etters and Greensburg.

While documentation of his career remains limited, the geographic concentration of his courses suggests an architect who served the practical needs of communities across the region during an era of golf course expansion.
