Paul N. Coates

Paul N. Coates was a Minnesota-based golf course architect active in the mid-20th century, responsible for a collection of courses throughout the state that served both public and private golfers. His work reflects the regional design traditions of the era, with layouts shaped by Minnesota's natural topography and climate considerations.

Among his notable designs are Keller Golf Course in Maplewood and Stillwater Country Club in Stillwater, both of which remain in play today. Coates also designed Pine Beach West at Madden's on Gull Lake in Brainerd, along with courses at Gem Lake Hills Golf Course, Glencoe Country Club, and Pebble Lake Golf Club in Fergus Falls.
