The best private courses in Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey

“From tee to green, one cannot help being captured by the traditional and yet interesting design and routing, as well as the varied topography. The course is difficult and challenging, especially the greens, but not unfair.”

“Classic old school course with fabulous bunkering, very tricky greens and variety of distances. Blue tees seemed way longer than 6500ish. Standout holes included short par 4 2nd, short par 4 12th, and tunnel 18th.”

“Has the feel of a Scottish links with the hills and lack of trees. Some awesome views of NYC and the Hudson River. Fun to play once or twice.”

“Great views of the Statue of Liberty and NYC. Certainly gets way more disrespect than it deserves. Not a natural look, but course is in great shape and still has a good variety of holes. Finishing stretch of 14-18 is awesome.”

“My new home club! Despite being an almost completely flat piece of land with lots of parallel holes, Inwood manages to put together a variety of great strategic holes that punch well above their weight.”

“Been here quite a bit. It’s a great club and can be a fun play-not the hardest test of golf for good players. Some holes make you question the design, I’d call it outdated with modern distance.”

“A Ross design that is usually kept in good shape, just not my favorite. Need to hit the ball right to left. A super long Back 9 that measures about 3,800 yards from the tips.”

“Great course for beginners and most golfers. For longer hitters and competitive players it is too simple. Not an inch of elevation on the course and a pretty ok layout.”

“Some of the best green complexes you’ll ever experience. One of Charles Banks finest”

“Been here a bunch. Wish it was more walkable. The greens are super simple and semi-flat, so I seem to putt great here. Otherwise it’s nothing special, some good holes and well kept course conditions. Plenty of birdies to be had on easy par 5s and short 4s.”

“Played many times as another solid local private club-it’s kept well and looks nice, but the layout makes you want more. It seems a bit squished into less space and would be great if they had more land.”

“Conditions are solid but the course layout just does not do it for me. A few interesting holes, but feels very repeatable without any monster long holes. A decent course, but nothing more.”
