Westwood Course
St. Louis, MO, USA

Westwood Country Club sits in the western suburbs of St. Louis, established in the mid-twentieth century during a period of significant suburban golf development in the region. The course was designed by Harold Paddock, a Midwest-based architect who worked primarily in Missouri and neighboring states during the 1950s and 1960s. Paddock's designs typically reflect the practical, member-focused approach common to many clubs built in this era, emphasizing playability for a range of skill levels while incorporating the natural terrain available. The layout occupies gently rolling terrain characteristic of the St. Louis area, with mature tree-lined fairways and traditional parkland features. The routing likely takes advantage of natural elevation changes to create variety in shot requirements and visual interest throughout the round. Paddock's work generally favored strategic bunkering and greens that rewarded accurate approach play without excessive penal design elements. Westwood functions as a private family-oriented club serving its local membership. The facility supports the full range of country club activities typical of established St. Louis-area clubs, with golf as the central amenity complemented by social and dining programs. The course provides a consistent test for members while maintaining the character of mid-century American club design, reflecting both the architectural priorities of its era and the ongoing stewardship of a regional membership base.
Nice private course in Western St. Louis. Walking first club and an easy walk at that. Lots of inconsistent Bermuda randomly throughout the property is keeping it from being 4 star or better. Good, not great. Tough growing season so greens are very soft and not real fast. Tees were excellent and tightly mowed. It would be a good course if I didn’t know how much it cost to be a member. Way too much compared to others in the area.
