GRANDOVER RESORT & CONFERENCE CENTER
🇺🇸 Greensboro, NC, USA
Designed by David Graham, Gary Panks
The West Course at Grandover Resort opened in 1996 as the second of two championship layouts at this Greensboro property, designed by PGA Tour player David Graham in collaboration with architect Gary Panks. Graham, an Australian who won both the U.S. Open and PGA Championship during his playing career, brought a strategic sensibility to the design that emphasizes shot placement over pure length. The course occupies rolling Piedmont terrain typical of the North Carolina interior, with elevation changes that provide natural variety to the routing.
The layout moves through wooded corridors and opens occasionally to broader views across the property's several hundred acres. Water features into play on multiple holes, and the bunkering reflects Graham's preference for clearly defined hazards that reward accurate play. The greens tend toward moderate size with enough contour to create interesting pin positions without becoming overly severe. The West Course generally plays as the more forgiving of Grandover's two layouts, though it still presents a legitimate test from the back tees.
As part of a resort complex that includes conference facilities and a full-service hotel, the West Course sees play from both resort guests and outside visitors. The property's dual-course setup makes it a destination for golf groups and corporate outings in the Greensboro area. The course operates within the resort's broader hospitality framework, offering convenient access to lodging and dining for traveling golfers exploring North Carolina's Piedmont golf corridor.
