Watson Ranch Course
Coos Bay, OR, USA

Watson Ranch Golf occupies a coastal setting near Coos Bay on Oregon's southern coast, designed by H. Chandler Egan, the architect best known for his work at Pebble Beach Golf Links and for designing or redesigning several courses in the Pacific Northwest during the early twentieth century. Egan, an accomplished amateur golfer and two-time U.S. Amateur champion, brought a player's sensibility to his designs, favoring strategic options and natural contours over artificial difficulty. The course sits in a region characterized by temperate rainforest, coastal winds, and rolling terrain typical of Oregon's coastal landscape. Egan's routing likely takes advantage of the natural topography, incorporating elevation changes and native vegetation into the playing corridors. The proximity to Coos Bay suggests potential views of the water and exposure to coastal weather patterns that can influence playing conditions throughout the year. As with many of Egan's Pacific Northwest designs, Watson Ranch likely emphasizes thoughtful shot-making over length, with green complexes that reward precision and an understanding of how the ball reacts on turf conditioned by the region's substantial rainfall. The course serves the Coos Bay area, a community with deep ties to the timber industry and outdoor recreation, providing golf in a landscape shaped by both coastal geography and the forested character of southwestern Oregon.
Loved this course, tricky at times and the greens were in awesome condition!
Now known as Coos Golf Club decent layout some interesting holes overshadowed Bandon Dunes resort 20 miles south. For a small town course you could do a lot worse. Little quirky But a fun layout
