The Weiskopf course at Vista Vallarta Golf Club occupies terrain in the foothills above Puerto Vallarta, where the Sierra Madre mountains descend toward Banderas Bay. Tom Weiskopf routed the layout through natural ravines and across elevation changes that provide views of both the Pacific coastline and the surrounding mountain landscape. The property features tropical vegetation and several natural water features that come into play on multiple holes. Weiskopf's design takes advantage of the dramatic topography, with holes moving through canyons and along ridgelines. The routing includes significant elevation changes that affect club selection and strategy, particularly on approach shots where depth perception can be challenging against the mountain backdrop. Several holes play across or alongside barrancas—the steep-sided ravines characteristic of this region—requiring forced carries and precise shot placement. Vista Vallarta opened in the late 1990s and actually features two eighteen-hole courses on the same property; Jack Nicklaus designed the companion layout. The Weiskopf course has hosted professional events on the PGA Tour's schedule, including editions of the World Golf Championships-Mexico Championship when that event was held in Puerto Vallarta. The course serves both resort guests and members, with the facility offering practice areas and clubhouse amenities typical of destination golf properties in Mexico's resort corridors.
