THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Austin, TX, USA
Designed by Randolph P. Russell, Roy Bechtol
Home to the Longhorns golf teams, The University of Texas Golf Club winds through the rolling Texas Hill Country northwest of Austin, a landscape as integral to the university’s identity as Bevo. Designed by Bechtol Russell Golf in the early 2000s, the course presents a modern take on Hill Country golf. While not boasting the length of some modern layouts, accuracy off the tee becomes paramount, particularly navigating the doglegs that weave through the native oaks and cedars.
The generous fairways belie the challenge that awaits on approach, demanding precise iron play to small, subtly undulating greens. The wind, a constant companion in this elevated region, further complicates club selection. The clubhouse is known for its panoramic views of the course, particularly at sunset, and has become a popular spot for University faculty and staff gatherings.
Beyond its collegiate ties, the club maintains a strong membership base of alumni and Austin residents. While the UT Golf Club is not steeped in decades of tournament history, it consistently holds collegiate championships and local amateur events, making it a key part of the Austin golf community. Its role as the home of the Longhorns golf program ensures a steady stream of young talent gracing its fairways.
Reviews
Great test of golf. You’ll hit every club in the bag. Doesn’t play terribly long. If you hit a good shot you’ll have a birdie chance. Hit a bad one, good chance of making a big number.
Everything is pure. Practice facilitates are top notch with a par 3 course
Played the 2013 Big I National Invitational here. I loved the course. Challenging but fair.
My home course here at UT. It was built for the team so it has a championship type layout and is tough as hell. I’m lucky enough to play it every week, but if you aren’t you are in for a tough but fair test. The greens are tough and landing spots are crucial in these small portioned pockets. Fairways are mostly sloped and you don’t get too many flat lies. It takes a good ball striking day to be able to score. Highly recommend getting out there and hey, I can help you with that🤝
There’s a reason UT has won 2 national championships in the past 15 years. The facilities and course at UT is awesome, needs to be played!
