The Legacy Golf Resort at Frenchman Hills

The Legacy at Frenchman Hills sits in the Columbia Basin of central Washington, approximately twenty miles south of Moses Lake in the agricultural community of Othello. Randy DuFord designed the course, which opened in the early 2000s as part of a resort development on terrain that transitions from the region's characteristic basalt formations to reclaimed desert landscape. The routing takes advantage of the natural elevation changes and rocky outcroppings that define this part of the Columbia Plateau. The course plays through a landscape shaped by ancient lava flows and subsequent irrigation projects that transformed the surrounding area into productive farmland. Water features appear throughout the layout, both as strategic hazards and visual elements that contrast with the arid high-desert setting. The design incorporates the area's volcanic rock into its aesthetic, with dark basalt columns and boulders framing several holes and creating a distinctive visual character uncommon in Pacific Northwest golf. As a resort facility in a relatively remote location, The Legacy serves both destination visitors and regional golfers drawn to the Columbia Basin. The property includes lodging and dining amenities typical of a golf resort, though the course itself remains the primary draw. The setting offers expansive views across the basin, with the distant Cascade Range visible on clear days to the west.
