Navarino Hills

The Hills at Costa Navarino is an 18-hole championship course designed by José María Olazábal and opened in 2010 as part of the Costa Navarino resort development in the southwestern Peloponnese. The course occupies elevated terrain overlooking the Ionian Sea and Navarino Bay, with the routing taking advantage of natural elevation changes across olive groves and Mediterranean landscape. Olazábal's design emphasizes strategic variety, with holes moving through different elevations and orientations that create diverse playing angles and wind conditions. The layout features a mix of parkland-style holes in the lower sections and more exposed, links-influenced terrain on higher ground where sea breezes become a significant factor. Several holes offer views toward the historic Bay of Navarino and the surrounding Messinian countryside. The course incorporates native vegetation including olive trees, some centuries old, which frame fairways and define playing corridors. Water features appear on select holes, and bunkering follows a naturalistic style consistent with the Mediterranean setting. The Hills serves as one of two courses at Costa Navarino, the other being The Dunes designed by Bernhard Langer. Together they form the golf centerpiece of a larger resort complex that includes hotels, residential areas, and recreational facilities. The course is accessible to resort guests and visiting golfers, and it has hosted professional events on the European developmental tours.
