St. Leon-Rot, located in the Rhine Valley between Heidelberg and Karlsruhe, operates two eighteen-hole courses designed by Dave Thomas, the British architect and former Ryder Cup player. The St. Leon course, completed in the early 1990s alongside its companion Rot course, was built on relatively flat terrain characteristic of the Upper Rhine Plain. Thomas shaped the property with substantial earthmoving to create elevation changes, mounding, and strategic bunkering across what was originally agricultural land. The layout features wide fairways bordered by mature trees and water hazards that come into play on several holes. Thomas incorporated large, undulating greens and positioned bunkers to reward accurate approach shots while penalizing wayward drives. The course benefits from the region's mild climate and typically plays firm and fast during summer months. Drainage systems allow for year-round playability despite the area's proximity to the Rhine floodplain. St. Leon-Rot gained international recognition when it hosted the Solheim Cup in 2015, the first time the women's team competition was held in Germany. The facility has also served as a venue for various European Tour and Ladies European Tour events. The club maintains both courses to tournament standards and offers practice facilities that reflect its competitive pedigree. The clubhouse provides traditional German hospitality with views across both courses toward the surrounding Baden countryside.
