Southern Pines is an incredibly fun Donald Ross track that arguably has the most character and challenge of the three “Pines” courses. Spectacular Par-3s, superb Par-4 diversity, lots of elevation changes & diabolical, yet slowish greens. A potential #TweederTop10 public course.
The people were great. But probably the ugliest clubhouse I’ve ever seen in all of golf. I hate to say this, but I really don’t get the hype. Ross design and fun enough but when I tell you it’s generic, I mean that sincerely. This course could be any decently kept muni in any state in the south. Not a problem for me but we saw a number of people hopping a fence to the property and crossing fairways to go fishing in the ponds. A group of eight was in front of us in tee shirts and jeans at one point. Love Ross. Don’t need to go back. Good condition, though.
Pristine course. Classic Donald Ross pines course. Lots of sand and waste area. Super fun layout with some driveable par 4’s and difficult greens.
This might be the best course in all of Pinehurst. Hands down a must play. The work Kyle Franz did to turn this back into a Ross masterpiece is truly exemplary.

Great layout by Ross, possibly the best land he had to work with. The renovation was needed, but I think it’s a bit too severe. Still a great walk and a lot of interesting holes and variety.
