SOUTH MOUNTAIN GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Draper, UT, USA
Designed by David Graham, Gary Panks

South Mountain Golf Club sits in the foothills above Draper, Utah, where the Wasatch Range rises dramatically from the Salt Lake Valley. Designed by David Graham and Gary Panks and opened in the late 1990s, the course occupies rolling terrain that transitions from valley floor to mountain slope, offering elevation changes and views across the metropolitan area to the Great Salt Lake basin beyond.
The routing takes advantage of the natural topography, with holes that climb into the foothills and others that descend back toward the valley. The design incorporates native grasses and scrub vegetation typical of the high desert environment, with fairways carved through terrain that can be both open and confining. Water features appear on several holes, contrasting with the arid surroundings, while bunkers are positioned to challenge approach shots on the more elevated greens.
Graham, a former PGA Tour player and major champion, brought a competitive player's perspective to the design work, while Panks contributed experience from projects across the western United States. The course serves a private membership in one of Utah's growing suburban communities, where golf operates within a relatively short season dictated by mountain weather patterns. South Mountain represents the expansion of golf development into the Wasatch Front during the region's rapid growth period of the 1990s and early 2000s.
