Grenelefe Golf & Tennis Resort

The South Course at Grenelefe Golf & Tennis Resort in Haines City, Florida, was designed by Ron Garl in collaboration with touring professional Andy Bean. Opened in the early 1980s, it represents one of three courses at this central Florida resort property, which sits among the rolling terrain characteristic of the Lake Wales Ridge region. The course occupies land with more natural elevation change than typically found in Florida golf, allowing Garl to incorporate strategic use of slopes and contours into the design. The routing takes advantage of the property's mature oak and pine trees, creating defined corridors and a parkland character uncommon in much of the state. Water features appear throughout the layout, integrated into the design in ways that require thoughtful club selection and course management. The terrain's movement provides opportunities for uneven lies and approach shots to elevated or tiered greens, adding variety to the shotmaking demands. Grenelefe operated as a resort destination for several decades, hosting various regional amateur and professional events during its peak years. The facility has changed ownership and management multiple times, with periods of renovation and adjustment to the original design.
