Shadow Hawk Course
Richmond, TX, USA

Shadow Hawk Golf Club opened in 2002 on former rice farmland southwest of Houston in Richmond, Texas. Rees Jones designed the course with assistance from Greg Muirhead, creating a layout that works with the flat coastal prairie topography characteristic of the region. The design incorporates substantial earthmoving to introduce elevation changes and strategic interest to land that would otherwise offer minimal natural contour. The course features water on multiple holes, reflecting both the site's agricultural history and the need for drainage and irrigation infrastructure in this low-lying area. Jones shaped large, undulating greens and positioned bunkers to create visual definition and strategic options from tee to green. The routing takes advantage of mature trees that were preserved or added to frame holes and provide separation between fairways. Shadow Hawk operates as a daily-fee facility serving the greater Houston golf market. The course has hosted regional amateur competitions and qualifiers, contributing to competitive golf opportunities in Fort Bend County. The layout measures over 7,000 yards from the back tees, offering length and challenge for accomplished players while providing forward tee options for recreational golfers. The club includes practice facilities and a clubhouse that supports both member play and public access. Shadow Hawk represents one of several Jones designs in Texas, where the architect has worked to create championship-caliber courses across varied landscapes throughout his career.
