Scholl Canyon Golf & Tennis Club

Scholl Canyon Golf & Tennis Club occupies a hillside site in the Verdugo Mountains above Glendale, California. The course was designed by William P. Bell and opened in 1960 as a municipal facility operated by the City of Glendale. Bell, a prolific Southern California architect whose work includes Torrey Pines South and numerous public courses throughout the region, routed the layout across sloping terrain that provides elevation changes and views over the San Fernando Valley and surrounding foothills. The course plays as a par-72 layout measuring approximately 6,000 to 6,400 yards from the back tees, depending on tee configuration. The routing makes use of the natural topography, with several holes playing uphill or downhill and sidehill lies common throughout the round. The terrain creates strategic interest on approach shots and requires golfers to manage uneven stances. Mature trees line many fairways, and the greens feature modest undulation typical of Bell's municipal designs from this era. As a city-owned facility, Scholl Canyon serves a broad public clientele and offers accessible green fees compared to private clubs in the Los Angeles area. The club includes tennis facilities alongside the golf course.
