Scarboro Golf Club

Scarboro Golf Club occupies rolling terrain in Scarborough, a district in the eastern part of the Greater Toronto Area. The club was established in 1912, with the original course designed by George Cumming, a prominent Canadian golf architect and professional who shaped numerous layouts across Ontario in the early twentieth century. In 1922, A.W. Tillinghast redesigned the course, bringing his characteristic strategic bunkering and green complexes to the property. Tillinghast's work at Scarboro represents one of his few Canadian projects and reflects the design principles he applied at many of his celebrated American courses during the same period. The routing moves over gently rolling ground with mature tree-lined fairways and modest elevation changes. Tillinghast's design emphasizes placement off the tee and approach angles into greens that feature subtle contours and are defended by his signature deep, sculptured bunkers. The property includes several holes that play along natural ridges and through corridors framed by hardwoods, creating a parkland character typical of established clubs in the Toronto region. Scarboro has hosted numerous provincial and national amateur championships over the decades, contributing to competitive golf in Ontario. The club maintains a traditional private membership and operates as a family-oriented institution with a focus on golf and social activities. The clubhouse and grounds reflect the club's long history in the Toronto golf community, and the course remains a well-regarded example of Tillinghast's design work in Canada.
