Sandpiper Course
Santa Barbara, CA, USA

Sandpiper Golf Club in Goleta owes its enduring appeal to a dramatic setting, where the Pacific Ocean serves as both gallery and gauntlet. The course, carved into coastal bluffs overlooking the Channel Islands, offers views as distracting as the persistent sea breezes. Designed in the early 1970s, Sandpiper favors players who can manage the wind and hold a line. Its generous fairways are tempered by strategically placed bunkers and greens that demand precise approach shots. While not nationally renowned, Sandpiper provides a stern, yet fair, test that locals appreciate. Over the years, Sandpiper has become a favorite among Santa Barbara golfers, known for its unpretentious atmosphere and consistent playing conditions. While the club does not host any major championships, the course is often frequented by celebrities, and golfers who seek a challenging and memorable round with an oceanside view.

Golfers say this public course north of Los Angeles delivers exceptional ocean views and natural beauty that more than compensate for conditioning issues. Most praise the spectacular Pacific vistas and signature holes, calling it a gem and highly recommending it for the scenery alone, with several noting the excellent value and walkability. Reviewers acknowledge that course conditions—particularly greens and fairways—have declined somewhat amid an announced restoration, though the consensus remains that the dramatic setting makes it worth playing regardless.

One of the most naturally beautiful courses I’ve played. Conditions could be improved but the location and the scenery throughout makes it all so worth it
Great public course a bit north of LA. Amazing views of the Pacific Ocean with some really great signature holes. Great walk, very affordable, highly recommend if you’re in the area
Absolute gem in so cal, lucky to live only 10 min drive from here. Reason for low rating is course has been a little beat since they’ve announced an upcoming restoration. Greens and fairways are a little rough, but still can’t beat the views.
One of the best day trips for Angelnos. Take the train, play the course, take train back home have dinner downtown. Helluva way to spend a day for like $300.
Amazing views.
