Salmon Run Golf Course

Salmon Run Golf Course occupies a forested hillside setting in Brookings, a small coastal city in Oregon's southwestern corner near the California border. The course was designed by architect Ted Robinson and opened in the mid-1990s, carved through stands of Douglas fir, cedar, and Sitka spruce that characterize this temperate rainforest region. The routing takes advantage of the natural terrain, with elevation changes and tree-lined corridors defining most holes. The layout moves through dense forest with fairways that require accuracy off the tee, as the mature trees create narrow playing corridors on many holes. Water features appear on several holes, including ponds and creeks that come into play both strategically and aesthetically. The design incorporates the natural topography rather than extensive earthmoving, resulting in holes that follow the land's existing contours and slopes. Salmon Run serves as a public facility for both visitors to the southern Oregon coast and local residents. The course provides a woodland golf experience distinct from the more links-style or oceanfront courses found elsewhere along the Oregon coast. Brookings itself sits in what locals call the "Chetco Effect" microclimate, where weather patterns often differ from surrounding areas, though the forest canopy at Salmon Run provides shelter regardless of conditions.
