Royal St. David's Course
Harlech, Gwynedd, Wales

Royal St. David's occupies a dramatic stretch of linksland in Harlech, set against the backdrop of Snowdonia's mountains and the medieval Harlech Castle, which overlooks the course from its clifftop perch. Laid out by H. Finch-Hatton and opened in 1894, the course runs along a narrow strip of duneland between the Morfa Harlech estuary and the town, with the routing making efficient use of the compact linksland terrain. The sandy soil and natural undulations provide classic links conditions, and the prevailing winds off Tremadog Bay add considerable challenge to club selection and shot-making. The course measures over 6,600 yards from the championship tees and features several memorable holes that play through and over the dunes. The opening stretch moves out toward the sea, while the inward nine returns along parallel fairways, creating a traditional out-and-back links layout. Bunkers are strategically placed, and the greens are typically firm and fast, rewarding precise approach play. The par threes are particularly strong, demanding accurate iron play in often difficult wind conditions. Royal St. David's has hosted numerous Welsh championships and other national amateur events, serving as an important venue in Welsh golf. The club maintains traditional links golf values, and the course is known for being walkable despite the dune terrain. The combination of mountain views, castle backdrop, and genuine links character makes it one of Wales's most distinctive seaside courses.
Played here April 2026. A magnificent course even though it was getting over a tough winter. Loved every minute of our day here. Staff were superb. It is a must play course in my opinion
