Pine/Palm Course
Detroit Lakes, MN, USA

Detroit Country Club sits on the shores of Detroit Lake in west-central Minnesota, about an hour east of Fargo. The club dates to the early twentieth century and has long served as a recreational and social hub for this resort community in the lake country. The facility features two nine-hole courses—Pine and Palm—that can be played in various eighteen-hole combinations, a common configuration for clubs of this era and region that sought to maximize variety and accommodate member play. The terrain around Detroit Lakes is characteristic of Minnesota's glaciated landscape, with gentle rolls, mature tree corridors, and sandy subsoils that provide good drainage. The Pine and Palm nines wind through wooded areas and more open stretches, offering a mix of hole types and shot values. Water comes into play on several holes given the proximity to the lake and the presence of smaller ponds and wetlands typical of the region. The tree-lined fairways demand accuracy, while the greens tend to be modest in size and contour, reflecting the design sensibilities of mid-century Midwest golf. Detroit Lakes has a long tradition as a summer destination, and the country club reflects that seasonal rhythm, with peak activity during the warmer months when lake recreation and golf intersect. The club provides a straightforward, unpretentious golf experience suited to members and visitors looking for a pleasant round in a lakeside setting.

Great little Tight Short Track Home of Pine to Palm the 3rd leg of 3 straight week long Match Play Championships in the North of Minnesota
Meh.
Nostalgic. Lots of history here. Generally a gettable golf course but if you get squirrelly there’s some trouble out there for you. One of my favorites
