Some courses are highly rated just for the views but Pikewood National has the substance on the ground to back it up. Each hole looks like a painting, you almost feel odd taking divots out of such a perfect setting but there is no pretentiousness once you are on property. If anything, the golf holes are understated compared to what could have been overdone but in a black tie, bespoke tuxedo type of way. It's not pretending to be completely natural but each hole is routed through the terrain in a really cool way. The micro and macro details are all accounted for. Walking the course was not as strenuous as some may have you believe despite covering such drastic elevation changes across the enormous property. Especially with caddies, the walk/hike is really enjoyable in and of itself. You get a decent mix of strategic, penal, and heroic holes. There are a few shots through the whole round where you fully understand the consequences while standing over the ball where the shot is either pulled off or its a lost ball. Again, for the setting, it comes with the mountain terrain. I'd say this course would be universally enjoyed but only truly "fun" if you have the shots in the bag and can pull them off. If forced to pick nits, I would say the par 3's on the back (12 and 14) look visually very similar from the tee with the way they are perched onto the cliffs despite being receptive to different shots... but some may look at this as a chance for quick redemption instead of a negative. If you are ever fortunate enough to get an opportunity to play here (I never imagined I would either), it is an unforgettable day and is the highest of recommendations possible.

The views are non stop, so it's hard to get mad at a bad shot. Membership is very low so you'll have the place to yourself, which is always a bonus. A must play mountain course and worthy of a top100 ranking.
