Oak/Quarry Course
The Links at Quarry Oaks
About this course
The Links at Quarry Oaks in Steinbach, Manitoba features two distinct nines that reflect the property's unique topography and industrial heritage. Canadian architect Les Furber designed the facility to incorporate a former limestone quarry into the routing, creating dramatic elevation changes and exposed rock faces that contrast sharply with the flatter prairie landscape typical of southern Manitoba. The Oak nine plays through more traditional terrain with mature tree stands, while the Quarry nine descends into and climbs out of the excavated quarry itself, offering uncommon visual drama for the region. The quarry holes present steep drops from elevated tees, with fairways carved between sheer rock walls and around water-filled quarry pits. These manufactured landforms create strategic interest and memorable visuals rarely found on the Canadian prairies. The transition between the parkland character of the Oak nine and the quarry's stark geology gives players two contrasting experiences in a single round. Located approximately 60 kilometers southeast of Winnipeg, the course serves the growing Steinbach community and draws golfers from the provincial capital seeking variety beyond traditional prairie layouts. The facility operates as a public-access course, making the distinctive quarry setting available to a broad range of players. The design demonstrates how reclaimed industrial sites can be adapted for golf, transforming what was once an active mining operation into recreational terrain that capitalizes on the dramatic topography left behind.
