Northeast Harbor Course
Northeast Harbor, ME, USA

Northeast Harbor Golf Club, tucked into the dramatic coastline of Mount Desert Island, whispers tales of a bygone era where golf was a leisurely pursuit enjoyed amidst stunning natural beauty. Carved into the Maine landscape during the Golden Age, the course features classic, understated design elements that prioritize the land's natural contours. Expect tight fairways framed by rugged pines and strategic bunkers that punish indecision, making par a worthy achievement on this deceptively challenging layout. Blind shots and subtly sloping greens add another layer of complexity, rewarding course knowledge and strategic play over brute force. Herbert Leeds, the course's original architect, created a design that seamlessly blends with the rugged terrain. While not a major championship venue, Northeast Harbor's allure lies in its intimate scale and timeless charm. It’s a place where the salty air and breathtaking views compete with the golf itself for your attention. The club maintains a quiet, unpretentious atmosphere, attracting a membership drawn to its dedication to the traditions of the game and the simple pleasures of camaraderie. Post-round, members gather on the clubhouse porch, often with a plate of their famous popovers, to recount the day’s shots and celebrate the shared experience of playing a truly unique and beautiful course.

Joined this year and couldn’t be happier. It’s a short course but don’t let that fool you. The greens will test you and the need to be accurate is required. Fun private summer course with great staff, with improvements making it better year by year.
