Hermanus Golf Club

The North Course at Hermanus Golf Club occupies elevated terrain above the coastal town of Hermanus in the Western Cape, approximately 120 kilometers southeast of Cape Town. Robert Grimsdell designed the original layout, with Peter Matkovich contributing to later revisions and refinements. The course sits on the inland side of the town, positioned on the slopes of the Kleinrivier Mountains rather than directly on the ocean cliffs that characterize the area's famous whale-watching coastline. The routing works across rolling, fynbos-covered hillsides with significant elevation changes throughout the round. Players encounter uphill and downhill holes that demand careful club selection and course management, particularly when the Cape Doctor wind blows through the valley. The natural vegetation consists of indigenous fynbos and proteas, giving the course a distinctly South African character. Views extend across the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley toward the mountains and, from higher points, toward Walker Bay in the distance. Hermanus Golf Club operates both the North Course and a shorter South Course, serving local members and visitors to this popular coastal resort region.
