The North Course at Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Galena, Illinois, opened in 1977 as the resort's original layout, designed by Roger Packard. Set in the rolling terrain of northwest Illinois near the Mississippi River, the course takes advantage of the region's natural topography, which is more dramatic than much of the state's typically flat landscape. The design incorporates elevation changes, wooded corridors, and views across the Galena Territory, a residential and resort community that developed around the golf facilities. Packard's routing works through hardwood forests and along ridgelines, creating a parkland character with tree-lined fairways and greens that often sit at different elevations from their approach zones. The course measures over 6,800 yards from the back tees and features water hazards on several holes, including ponds and streams that come into play on approach shots. The layout emphasizes accuracy off the tee, as the wooded borders limit recovery options for errant drives. Eagle Ridge expanded over the years to include three additional courses, but the North Course remains the property's foundational design. The club operates as a resort facility with public access, serving both overnight guests and daily-fee players.
