Nanea Course
Kailua-Kona, HI, USA

Nanea Golf Club, carved into the dramatic volcanic slopes above Hawaii's Kona Coast, presents a uniquely private and challenging golf experience, a testament to understated elegance. This exclusive enclave exists on a foundation of deep respect for the land and Hawaiian culture, fostering a serene atmosphere of privacy. Architects David McLay Kidd and Jim Wagner crafted a course that embraces the natural contours of the terrain. The layout unfolds across rolling hills and ancient lava flows, featuring wide fairways that reward bold play and strategically placed bunkers that punish imprecision. The ocean vistas are breathtaking, yet the inland routing emphasizes the property's diverse character. The course is known for its risk reward holes allowing members to test their medal against the island landscape. Nanea's two courses exist in harmony with the rugged landscape and privacy which fosters deep relationships between the families who share the property. Though relatively young, Nanea has quickly garnered a reputation for its exceptional course conditions and uncompromising commitment to privacy and sustainability. Members often describe the experience as a true escape, where the focus remains squarely on the game and shared appreciation for this remarkable setting. The exclusivity allows for a more bespoke golf experience catering to the families who appreciate all that it offers.

Playing Nanea Golf Club was an incredible experience and one of the most unique rounds I’ve ever had. This is arguably my favorite course in Hawaii and the course is carved into the lava slopes of the island and blends seamlessly with its surroundings, offering a true links-style feel with firm and fast fairways, natural lava hazards, and steady ocean winds that keep you on your toes. The views are stunning, with clear sight of the Pacific visible from almost every hole, and the setting feels completely untouched. And trust me, if you are missing fairways out there, the tall grass will eat you alive if you are lucky enough to even find your ball. The greens were also lightning-fast and tricky to read, demanding precision on every putt. Between the dramatic lava landscape, flawless conditions, and the exclusivity of playing such a private course, Nanea delivers a one-of-a-kind golfing experience and is a must play if the opportunity ever presents itself.
