Mountaineers Woodview Course
New Cumberland, WV, USA

Mountaineers Woodview Golf Club sits in New Cumberland, a small community in Hancock County in West Virginia's Northern Panhandle, where the state narrows to a sliver between Ohio and Pennsylvania. The course was designed by Robert Hillis, a regional architect who worked primarily in the Mid-Atlantic during the latter decades of the twentieth century. The setting reflects the rolling terrain characteristic of the upper Ohio River valley, where modest elevation changes and wooded corridors shape the playing corridors. The layout occupies land typical of northern West Virginia golf courses, where tree-lined fairways and seasonal creek beds come into play. Hillis designed courses that emphasized playability for a range of skill levels while incorporating the natural topography available on site. At Mountaineers Woodview, the routing likely takes advantage of the property's contours to create variety in hole length and shot requirements, with doglegs and elevation shifts providing strategic interest. The club serves the local golfing community in the tri-state area, drawing members and visitors from nearby Weirton and the greater Wheeling region. As a facility in a smaller West Virginia town, it functions as a gathering place for recreational play and local competitions. The course offers a straightforward test of golf shaped by the landscape of the Northern Panhandle, where the game fits into the wooded, hilly character of Appalachian foothill country.
Not just being nice to them because I shot my PB here, but just a fun, short course to go slap it around at that. Insanely nice staff, insanely good rates, generally very available. Couple hard Par 3’s (shoutout hole 6) with a bunch of easy stuff mixed in. Fun time.
