The Mountain Course at Nansha Golf Club occupies hilly terrain in the Nansha district of Guangzhou, positioned in the Pearl River Delta region of southern China. British golf instructor and course designer John Jacobs, better known for his teaching methods and golf schools than for course architecture, laid out this eighteen-hole design to take advantage of the property's natural elevation changes. The routing moves through forested hillsides and offers views across the surrounding landscape characteristic of Guangdong Province. The course features significant topographical variation, with holes routed up, down, and across slopes that create both strategic interest and physical challenge. Elevated tees and greens are common throughout the design, and the natural contours influence shot-making on approach play. The layout incorporates the existing vegetation and water features typical of the region's subtropical environment. Nansha Golf Club developed as part of the broader expansion of golf facilities in the Guangzhou area during China's golf development period. The district itself has grown considerably as an economic and development zone south of central Guangzhou, and the club serves both local members and visiting golfers.
