Morris Williams Golf Course

Morris Williams, hugging the eastern edge of Austin, is a public course steeped in local lore, a place where generations of Longhorns first learned the game. This is unpretentious, accessible golf, where the spirit of the game outweighs any notions of exclusivity. Designed by Leon Howard, the original layout opened in 1964. The gently rolling terrain presents a straightforward challenge, favoring a strategic approach over sheer power. The course does not intimidate with length, instead it tests a player's ability to manage the course, placing a premium on accurate iron play and a deft short game. Many consider it a shot makers course. "Mo Willy," as locals affectionately call it, has never hosted a major championship but has been the regular stage for local competitions. The course is named for Morris Williams Jr., a notable figure in Austin golf history. More than a challenging round, Morris Williams Golf Course is a slice of Austin's sporting heritage, and the home of casual golf, played best with friends.
