Kilarney Golf & Fishing Club

Mahony's Point is the older and more celebrated of Killarney Golf & Fishing Club's three courses, set along the shores of Lough Leane in County Kerry. The original layout was designed by Sir Guy Campbell in the 1930s, with significant contributions from Henry Longhurst, who helped shape the routing through the estate's natural lakeside terrain. The course occupies a dramatic setting beneath the MacGillycuddy's Reeks mountain range, with the lake and surrounding woodland forming a distinctive Irish parkland character. The routing makes extensive use of the lough shoreline, particularly on the back nine where several holes play directly along the water's edge. The 18th hole, a par three played to a peninsula green jutting into Lough Leane, is among the most photographed finishing holes in Irish golf. The terrain features gentle elevation changes and mature tree-lined fairways, with strategic bunkering that reflects Campbell's design philosophy. The course demands accuracy over distance, as the narrow corridors and water hazards penalize wayward shots. Killarney Golf & Fishing Club has hosted numerous Irish championships and professional events over the decades, establishing Mahony's Point as one of Ireland's traditional tournament venues. The club maintains a welcoming atmosphere for visitors, with the clubhouse overlooking both Mahony's Point and the club's other layouts. The combination of natural beauty and strategic golf design has kept the course prominent in Irish golf since its opening.
