Luna Vista Course
Dallas, TX, USA

Luna Vista, hugging the Trinity River in the heart of Dallas, is less a shrine to championship golf and more a beloved local haunt, a testament to accessible sport in a city obsessed with big swings. Designed in the mid-20th century during a post-war boom, its design is utilitarian rather than aspirational, offering a straightforward playing field absent the melodrama found at more manicured courses. The parkland layout unfolds across relatively flat terrain, punctuated by mature hardwoods and the meandering river, which occasionally creeps into play. The course favors neither power nor finesse, presenting a balanced test that rewards strategic thinking over brute force. Subtle doglegs and well-placed bunkers require careful club selection, but the open fairways offer a forgiving landing area for the less-than-perfect drive. The greens, while not lightning-fast, demand respect due to their subtle breaks. Luna Vista’s modest clubhouse is a haven for regulars, a place where local lore is spun over ice-cold beverages. Tales abound of improbable shots and legendary matches. While Luna Vista hasn't hosted any formal professional tournaments, the course holds its own annual amateur championship that draws a solid local crowd. The event is well attended and many members reminisce about the champion in the years that follow.

6th hole runs parallel to a gun range, sounds like you’re being shot at haha
I mean sure. Fine for the price. Never busy during the week. One of the rare courses that actually offers 9 holes in DFW (most are all 18 or nothing). Great for mid week practice 9 - can run through in an hour or so mid week.
