Lost Rail Course
Gretna, NE, USA

Lost Rail, carved from the rolling Nebraska prairie just west of Omaha, evokes the spirit of a windswept links despite its Midwestern locale. The course, designed by Bill Bergin, favors a ground game and creative shot-making, presenting wide fairways that tempt aggressive drives, only to narrow considerably around the greens, demanding deft approaches to undulating surfaces. Bergin's design cleverly incorporates the native grasses and subtle elevation changes, making wind a constant, and often confounding, factor. Opened in 2020, Lost Rail is quickly establishing itself as a challenging yet fair test for golfers of all abilities in the region. The club fosters a close-knit community, drawn together by a shared appreciation for the game's traditions and the immersive experience of playing amidst the expansive prairie landscape. It remains unknown to the world, and quite proudly so. While Lost Rail has not hosted any major championships, its members enjoy spirited club competitions and a convivial atmosphere often centered around the clubhouse's expansive porch, overlooking the 18th green. There, under the vast Nebraska sky, tales of near misses and triumphant putts are shared over locally brewed craft beers, solidifying the bonds of this unique golfing community. They are known for a mean cheeseburger - no need to order it with any condiments, just trust them.
