The course reflects Jones's characteristic design principles from this era: strategic bunkering, large greens with distinct internal contours, and water hazards that come into play on several holes—hence the name Los Lagos, meaning "the lakes." The terrain features a mix of pine and olive trees, and the routing moves through varied topography that asks players to manage uphill and downhill lies. Jones shaped the holes to reward accurate placement over pure distance, with green complexes that demand thoughtful approach play.
