Le Saie Golf Club

Le Saie Golf Club occupies terrain in the Sicilian countryside near Carlentini, a comune in the province of Syracuse in southeastern Sicily. Designed by Franco Piras, an Italian architect whose work appears primarily in southern Italy and the islands, the course reflects a regional approach to golf development that adapts to the Mediterranean landscape and climate. The routing takes advantage of the natural contours and vegetation typical of this part of Sicily, where agricultural land transitions into rolling terrain. The course layout incorporates the challenges of the local topography, with elevation changes and native plantings that require strategic shot-making in conditions often influenced by coastal winds. Piras designed the holes to work within the existing land rather than impose dramatic earthmoving, a characteristic of many Italian courses built in the latter decades of the twentieth century when golf was expanding beyond the traditional northern centers around Milan and Turin into the southern regions. Le Saie serves the local golfing community in southeastern Sicily, an area where the sport remains less densely developed than in the north.
